Manual Therapy
Manual Therapy involves the Physiotherapist utilizing his or her hands to mobilize the joints of the spine and extremities, create movement in nerve tissue or facilitate the activation, flexibility and normal tone of muscle tissue. Several different techniques can be used to restore normal mobility, allowing safe and efficient movement in activity and/or sport.

Acupuncture
Acupuncture is a needling technique that combines both traditional Chinese medicine with Western science. It is a safe and effective technique involving the insertion of very fine needles into the skin at specific points in the body to achieve a therapeutic effect. Research has proven that acupuncture can act as an anti-inflammatory to help reduce swelling and pain, and promote healing.
-
Intramuscular Stimulation
IMS is a needling technique that helps to reduce tone/tightness in muscle bands or trigger points that contribute to both pain and dysfunction. By targeting localized areas of tightness with the needle insertion, a reflex relaxation is produced in the muscle. This helps to relieve pressure on the tight structures, contributing to the reduction of pain and dysfunction.
-
Shockwave Therapy
Shockwave or Radial Shockwave Therapy (rSWT) is applied through a specifically designed hand piece that produces strong energy pulses for short periods of time. The energy is directed at the selected treatment site to stimulate metabolism and enhance circulation. Treatment sessions are short and mildly uncomfortable. rSWT is safe, and can be used by a Physiotherapist in the treatment of musculoskeletal disorders.
Common conditions that can be successfully treated with rSWT: Shoulder tendinopathy (with or without calcification), Achilles tendinopathy, Plantar Fasciitis, Tennis/Golfer’s Elbow, Patellar tendinopathy, Heel spurs, Muscular trigger points, Trochanteric bursitis, plus more. -
Spinal Decompression
Spinal Decompression is the therapeutic elongation of the spine in a slow, gentle manner in order to relieve pressure on compressed vertebrae and/or discs. It involves gradual unloading of the spine, cycling between brief moments of gentle and painless pulling and rest to improve blood flow and important nutrient exchange to the injured area. Spinal decompression is very safe and comfortable to the patient.
-
Bike Fitting Session
A medical bike fitting begins with a full medical history and an orthopaedic assessment performed by a Physiotherapist. Together, you and your therapist will set up the proper fit between you and your bike in order to maximize performance efficiency and comfort, helping reduce the risk of injury.
-
Core Training
Core Training/Exercise Therapy involves eliciting motion of the body or its parts in order to relieve symptoms and improve function. Specific stretching, strengthening, and core stabilization exercises are critical for early return to sport and/or activity. Continued exercise is an important component of injury prevention and long-term maintenance.
-
K-Taping / Athletic Taping
Taping injured joints and body parts protects those areas from further re-injury and allows for an earlier return to activity and/or sport. It can also give support to an injured area and facilitate healing by providing stability and/or encouraging proper circulation.

Electrotherapy
Our physiotherapists can utilize electrotherapy and a variety of different modalities such as ultrasound, transcutaneous electrical stimulation (TENS), interferential current (IFC), high voltage current (HVPC), muscle stimulation, heat therapy, or ice compression therapy (Game Ready Ice). These machines can supplement your physiotherapy session by stimulating tissue healing, reducing pain and swelling, and restoring normal muscle function.

Screening Assessment
The Functional Screening Assessment involves testing movement patterns that are critical to normal function. A score is generated which identifies the areas a person needs to target. This tool is used to identify people who are at risk of injury during physical training. Your therapist can prescribe a corrective exercise program to address your mobility and/or stability deficits. This tool can also be used prior to starting a training program or at the end of your rehabilitation to determine if all your movement patterns are correct.

Massage Therapy
Massage therapy is a regulated health care profession which focuses on soft-tissue manipulation/mobilization to enhance muscle performance and function. Our massage therapists utilize techniques such as joint mobilizations, trigger point therapy, muscle energy techniques, and fascial release to treat movement dysfunctions, sports injuries, and pain. Massage therapy complements Physiotherapy in your road to recovery.
